Plastic Scrivets : description, advantages and uses

What is a Plastic Screw Rivet?

Plastic scrivets or Plastic Rivets Screws are mechanical fasteners used in many industrial and domestic applications. It’a two-pieces fastening device: a cylindrical nylon shank and a screw. The principle of operation of the nylon screw rivet is simple. The cylindrical shank is inserted into the pre-drilled holes in the parts to be assembled. No need for a riveter, pneumatic rivet gun, or any kind of riveting machine. A simple hand-tool will suffice. The screw is then screwed into the nylon rod until it is tight. As the screw is tightened, on the other side, the nylon rod deforms and locks between the two parts, ensuring a strong, tightly fastened, durable joint.

The benefits of our Rivets

There are many advantages to our plastic scrivets. Firstly, they are ergonomic. In fact, they are quick and easy to install, requiring only basic tools such as a drill and screwdriver. Furthermore, nylon is a light but strong material. This makes for a solid assembly while reducing the weight of the structure. Nylon is also a corrosion-resistant material, making it ideal for use in damp or corrosive environments, unlike their steel rivets counterparts (any ferrous metal rivets). In addition, nylon screw rivets offer a good seal, making them suitable for outdoor use or in applications requiring protection from contaminants. In addition, nylon is an electrical insulator, which is particularly useful in electrical installations. Finally, nylon exhibits excellent shear-strength, which make sure that your fasteners keep their tightening.

They are also avaible in a wide range of drill size, rivet heads type (protuding, round, flat head, hex…), and colours.

Applications for our Scrivets

The plastic scrivet is often used in the construction industry. They are used in various assembly systems, like assembling sheet metal, or soft materials like plasterboard or lightweight panels.

Thanks to their strength and ease of installation, these plastic fasteners are very popular. For example, for light frameworks, partitions or false ceilings. What’s more, nylon is a non-conductive material, making them perfectly suited to electrical applications. In industry, nylon screw rivets are widely used for assembling metal and plastic parts. With their corrosion-resistance (rust), they are the preferred choice for use in damp environments or those subject to temperature variations. In addition, nylon rivets limit vibration and provide an effective seal, making them ideal fasteners for sensitive machinery or equipment.
